New on XpertHR This Week - 7/9/2012

It has been an award-winning week for XpertHR. First, we won the Gold Award in the Best New Publication/Product category of the Magnum Opus Awards. Then, we won our second award from the Awards for Publication Excellence (APEX) in the new website category.

But, instead of taking time off to celebrate, our editors have kept grinding away to bring new content to our subscribers. This week, we've completed three new states, added a labor relations news article and a How To and have social media on our minds.

Three New States Completed

We've completed our comprehensive new compliance information for three more states!

Those states are:

  1. Maryland (completed July 5th);
  2. Oklahoma (completed July 6th); and
  3. Wisconsin (completed July 5th).

This brings the number of states completed for our subscribers to 34.

Our authors and editors are diligently working on the remaining states! The remaining states will be released this month (bringing us to 51 "states", including the District of Columbia).

Labor Relations

If there is a development affecting union employers, XpertHR's Legal Editor, Melissa Boyce, is all over it. This week, Melissa contributed a news article addressing a recent Supreme Court decision regarding use of union dues for political purposes. XpertHR also added a How To addressing employees' efforts to decertify a union.

All About Social Media

Social media is quickly evolving and employers' compliance obligations are evolving almost as fast.

Last week, we added content on the National Labor Relations Board's guidance regarding employers' use of social media and social media policies. This week, we updated our Legal Timetable to include a Maryland development. Specifically, as of October 1, 2012, Maryland employers will be prohibited from requesting applicants' social media login information - the first law of its kind, but likely not the last!

Updates in the law, and new guidance, mean employers need to start the daunting task of updating their social media policies - unless, they are XpertHR subscribers. Our subscribers can sit back and leave all the work to our Legal Editor, Beth Zoller, who is busily working on updating our social media content.
